Cape Town 3/31

Cape Town Day 2

Check out the view from our hotel room. And it cost us just a little more than $100 a night including 2 breakfasts. The lack of internet was an annoyance when combined with the rest of town not having any internet. Oh well.

Today will be mainly a driving day as we go up the western coast and make our way back to Cape Town. Our main goal is to pass through a couple of small towns on the way up. Noorhoek was first and then Hout Bay.

These are some of the views along the way. A lot of pristine beaches that weren't populated. Our enthusiasm tempered though by signs that warned about frequent crime that occurred at these beaches. We did get to learn about South Africa's great white warning system (green = good, black = spotter is present but can't see well due to ocean conditions, white = great white sighted and GET OUT OF WATER NOW).

In Hout Bay we stopped to check out a crafts market which had an interesting farmer's market type square with different food vendors. However, there was an iconic fish and chips store on the end of the docks so I went with that. One very large piece of fish and some fries only cost 42 rand (< $5 US). After lunch, we continued driving with our next destination one of Cape Town's main attractions: Table Mountain

Parking could have been disastrous as people were parking on the bottom of the hill and making the 1mile hike up just to get in line for the tram that would take them to the top. We got lucky and only parked like a quarter of mile away. The line was epic! We waited about 1+ hours to finally get into the tram. It was cool that it had been built with a revolving base so you could spin around and see all the sights. Table mountain got it's name for obvious reasons. It's tablecloth is the clouds around it and fortunately the weather was good enough to make it worth going up.

It's top is actually as flat as it looks.

Apparently the above flower is South Africa's state flower.

the Atlas pose....

You could get really nice panoramic views on top. it's so large it takes at least 45 minutes to walk around its entire circumference. Apparently you can also hike to the top but we didn't have the time. We didn't get down the mountain till 4 and decided to return to our hotel at that point, the Parliament.

Didn't do much that evening, went to Long Street where a college girl at our previous hotel had told us that's where people go to party. Definitely seemed like it but not our thing. We got a quick pizza (8 slices, only cost $8 US) and bailed out due to the smoke.
